March 29, 2024Knowledge is power. This is especially true in the kitchen. These four tips will save you time and money! And precious space in your mind for more important things like relaxing with a good book or spending time with the family. 🙂
1.Prepare Meat Ahead
Cook up 5 pounds of ground beef or a whole turkey on a slower morning, season and then store in freezer bags. Then pull out ready cooked meat the night before you plan on using it.
2. Have a year’s supply of food storage
My sister-in-law and husband had a strong impression that they needed to prioritize stocking their food storage. After several years they had built up a year supply of food. Imagine their gratitude when her husband suddenly lost his job and they needed to rely on their food storage to make their savings stretch as he searched for a new job. The Lord had answered their prayers and prepared them beforehand for what was to come.
3.Buy Extra
If you see items you normally pick up on sale, buy more! If it’s something you normally buy, you saved yourself money and have it as a back up when you need it.
4.Buy in Bulk
You save money when you buy in bulk! (We buy our oatmeal and spaghetti in bulk at Winco)
5..Buy Discount
There are many stores that have discounted items / groceries in special sections of the store. Why not save on something that is close to expiration that you can use? I always swing by the bakery discount area to see if there are artisan breads, rolls, cookies, etc. on sale. Then if I find things we like I freeze them if we won’t be able to use them in time. I especially think bakery cookies are a great deal. You can get big containers of big, delicious cookies for 75 percent off. If I make cookies at home, they would still be double that price for the ingredients!
(Tuesdays especially seem to be a great day for well stocked discount areas. Especially the meat and bakery areas)
